This Blog is an attempt to learn from everybody. We want open discussion with real thoughts and opinions. It is an open forum so please have integrity and abstain from insults or threats.
Over time we will ask a specific question that allows all to learn from others point of view. Give examples and reasons for your view.
Let’s have fun and learn from each other.
Question #1 ( 3 Part Question)
Are you a Liberal or Conservative? Give an overview of what makes you a L or C.
What specific issues do you think makes your position better for America?
What are 3 of the most important issues that you feel the other side will never understand? What 2 issues do you think we can all come together on?
I do not consider myself to be liberal or conservative. This is partly due to the fact that society changes over the course of time and that which was considered liberal 30 or 40 years ago is now considered conservative. Additionally, one can be considered liberal on social issues but conservative with respect to foreign affairs, or liberal with respect to religion but conservative regarding economics. The political landscape is sufficiently complex that no one label would accurately describe me.
I do believe in limited government, individual freedom, and personal responsibility. Although humans share some common characteristics, it is also true that each of us is very unique. If each of us is to fulfill our respective potential for a useful and happy life, we need the opportunity to pursue our goals individually. Furthermore, because each person holds a variety of opinions and viewpoints, it is best that we are able to construct our lives in accordance with those thoughts. Not only does this enhance personal contentment, but it reduces the amount of conflict in society. When one segment of society tries to impose its will on another segment, or even individually, conflict ensues. While it is true humans are social beings, it is best that the interaction between humans be voluntary rather than compulsory. Thus, it is better that individualism be emphasized over collectivism. Taken to its logical extreme, compulsory servitude is tantamount to slavery. I will suggest that even a small amount of slavery (even in the service of government) is not good if it can possibly be avoided.
Rather than identifying three issues in which the two sides do not have a common understanding, I will begin with just one. That is the issue of abortion. We do not share a common definition of human life and are unable to define at what point human existence begins.
I do not believe there are any issues we ALL can come together on. That is why the Constitution and the rule of law are so important. We need an effective process for adjudicating our differences, because differences will always exist. As long as some people believe the ends justify the means, we won’t ALL agree even on the value of one of your cardinal principles, that of integrity. Some will advocate dishonesty in the pursuit of what they deem a valuable goal.
Pierre, thank you for your comment. You sound like a libertarian. Unfortunately the Constitution is always being re-interpreted, and laws can be ambiguous and open ended. When many people think a law a can help some people, it can actually hurt other people unintentionally. The pandemic and shut downs and mask mandates for children is a good example. Some people will only look at one side and this is what I worry about. A politician will always twist the facts to what fits there narrative and you will never here that they were wrong and admit it should have been done differently. Always double down and start the “flip and switch” and redirect to make the “bad policy” sound like it was correct. This is the real problem with our elected officials. I also believe both sides have things we need to hear and understand but stop following the demanded narrative and start thinking independently. Joe Manchin is a good example of a man that calculates the long effects of a short win.
This nation has fallen so far, so fast and so deliberately under puppet Biden
Thanks for your blog, nice to read. Do not stop.
